The most recent briefing from the National Weather Service (Friday, January 23 at 2:00pm) indicates that Ohio County should expect to 6" to 13" of snow accumulation this weekend.  Snow will likely begin Saturday around dinnertime and continue to around 11:00am Monday morning.   Heaviest snowfall seen on Sunday between 10:00am and 7:00pm, ranging between 1/2" per hour to 1" per hour.  Expect winds in the 10 mph range.  There is some possibilty of ice accumulation, but it appears that the ice will be seen much heavier to the south of Ohio County.  Both WVDOH and the City of Wheeling Operations Departmen have indicated that they will be out starting mid-day on Saturday, staying out continuously until this event is over.  We do not expect many power outages as this should be a dry snow, lighter due to less water content.  If there is a power outage, and you do run a generator, be sure to do so outdoors, and at least twenty feet away from your residence.

Next week, winds will pick up to the 25 to 30 mph range, with early morning temperatures dipping down into the negative teens.

During this winter weather event:  stay indoors when possible, avoid travel during severe weather; stay hydrated; gather supplies such as medications, food, water, extra batteries, flashlights and radios; dress in layers when going outside, cover your nose, ears, cheeks, chin, fingers and toes to prevent frostbrite; test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detections, replase batteries as necessary; stay informed; check on neighbors, especially the elder.  In case of a true emergency call 911 for assistance.

Be safe out there!
